'I was born in Edinburgh and brought up in beautiful East Lothian, where I still live. mainly
I studied Art and Design in Edinburgh, covering interior design, pottery, screen printing, typography, magazine design, spatial design, still life, illustration and figure drawing! I began my career as a Graphic Designer in the print industry, illustrating invitations and designing corporate identities for new and established businesses. Designing from a drawing board changed to using the computer early in my career. Since then I have had several design jobs in various industries. I worked for nine years as the Designer for Scottish Field Magazine, before realising how much I wanted to get back to using pencil, pastel and paint. After an 18 year gap, I decided to do just that! The 2009 Three Harbours Arts Festival gave me that kick start. My first painting 'Boy In The Longboat', sold the morning before the event opened. During that year I won The Lord Novar Fellowship from the Baron of Prestoungrange and was given a bursary to produce an exhibition for him, This was to promote Prestonpans in the 21st century. I decided to involve the wonderful pupils from Preston Lodge High School, and produced the exhibition painting the town through their eyes. I paint with gouache mainly, as I like to layer the paint, and love the chalky matt finish it presents, as well as the array of tones you can achieve by blending the colours. My late father, Jon W Henderson, was also an artist, and I enjoy displaying his work alongside my own, as it was my dad who inspired me to paint as a young girl. It has been an exciting time, working on fantastic commissions with authors, galleries and whisky companies, selling my work here in Scotland as well as overseas. Welcome to my website! I hope you enjoy my work.' Kerry W B Henderson |
